Should I Write Fiction On Medium?
Everybody has that one thing they’re good at writing. Some love and have an amazing talent for writing articles, or blog posts, even reviews. Some, like myself, love fiction. Not just any fiction. Horror and also fantasy fiction. But can a short story written on Medium get much notice?
All I seem to see on Medium are countless articles or blog posts and people seem to enjoy having these little rants about things. Bonuses for example. I remember they were a thing for a very short while on Medium. Ah the memories.
But a good piece of fiction, no matter how well-written on Medium doesn’t seem to gain as much traction as an article or anything else. Medium doesn’t seem to be the place to be any more in terms of writing. I feel as though the only people I’m writing for now on Medium is myself and other writers on Medium, who are probably too busy writing to read my short stories or anybody else’s work.
I’ve seen the new options for getting subscribers that are readers only and non-Members. Well, hopefully that will help but I need some reassurance that writing a short story and posting it to Medium will be worth it in the long run. I do want SOMEBODY to read my work. I think we can all agree that we all do, even though we proclaim we don’t. Eventually, we will want our work read.
I’m going to be bold and write. I will write whatever piece of fiction I feel and post it. And promote it. The issue is, if my work after a certain period of time doesn’t gain any traction I will end up leaving. Because as much as I enjoy writing I would love the possibility of my work being read and enjoyed by countless people.
So wish me luck! Let me get a fresh blank document ready while I hasten to plot and write. I would love some feedback as to whether or not people enjoy reading fiction on Medium.
